The Aesthetics of Seventeen's Don't Wanna Cry MV

Hello, everyone, I don't update this blog regularly but today Pledis decided to drop Seventeen’s new mv today. Luckily exam week is almost done for me. The song is called Don’t Wanna Cry (울고 싶지 않아). It’s the title song of their 4th Mini Album [Al1]. To those who haven’t watched the music video yet, you can watch it here.
With
this post, I actually want to talk about many things regarding to this mv and
the song. I actually didn’t have any expectation. I don’t even have any idea
whether I would like Don’t Wanna Cry or not. I thought it would be a ballad song.
But then someone said that, according to Hottracks, the song is EDM. Today’s
come and Pledis uploaded the MV. After I listened to the song and watched the
MV, boom! I LOVE IT.
First
thing I love about this song is actually Hansol got some lines to sing. When the
song was starting, I don’t expect anything to be honest. Then, I saw Hansol
standing in very front line and actually singing to the song. I wasn’t so sure
at first, but the scene where the camera looked close up to Hansol while
singing is showed. In no time, I lost my shit. I probably was so focused on Hansol
but actually the whole Hip-hop unit got singing line.
Second
one is the song itself. The first time I listened to the song, I immediately
fell in love. This song will be on my playlist for weeks so I can listen to it
for bazillion times. Don’t Wanna Cry itself is an EDM song. For me, it’s good
like really really good. The beat is nice, I almost dance to it. I mean I danced
to it! Plus, I’m the type of person who’ll any kind of songs if it’s good to be
heard. But some people actually can’t stand EDM song.
Before
I talk about the MV itself, I’m so going to talk about the choreography. Yes, I
love it so muchhh. They even do it in the middle of a desert and on top of
rooftop. It’s just super beautiful and flow with the music well, especially the
chorus part. I can’t make the gif but I’m sure you guys know which one I mean. Besides,
I really love it when Minghao do that flip. But the intense part is when
everyone is kneeling and about to stand up, Junhui was doing that hip trust. I
mean, everyone was doing the same thing but the camera is closed up to him. Then,
I lost my shit once again.
Now,
let’s talk about the aesthetic of MV. Seventeen’s music videos always been
aesthetic since their debut. It’s very pleasing to see, especially for me, an
aesthetic enthusiast. I can’t even decide to pick which one my favorite
Seventeen’s MV. Don’t Wanna Cry MV for me is very calming and relaxing. I don’t
know why perhaps it’s accompanied with the angsty EDM song. Plus, everyone in
Seventeen looks so soft and so good. I’m so love with this concept.
